Vimeo On Demand alternative

Vimeo On Demand is closing: 6 places to sell your videos

Sales are already blocked, and your buyers lose access to what they paid for when it closes. Videas, Vimeo OTT, Uscreen, Dacast, Patreon and Gumroad: what each one charges, what it does well, and who it’s built for.

Where to pick your sales back up

Ranked from the closest to Vimeo On Demand (a catalog sold outright, by rental or by subscription) to the furthest (a file to sell, a community to charge): how each one gets paid, and what it doesn’t do.

Vimeo OTT

Where Vimeo points its On Demand sellers: a storefront with subscriptions, one-off purchases and rentals.

Best for: sellers who want to stay with Vimeo, and those aiming for branded TV apps, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, with an Enterprise budget.

Where it falls short: the Starter plan charges $1 per subscriber per month, plus 10% of one-off purchases, transaction fees on top, and stays web-only; branded apps come with Enterprise, on quote. It is a different product from On Demand, with its own pricing.

Uscreen

The US subscription video platform for creators, with a website, a community space and mobile and TV apps.

Best for: creators whose model rests on subscriptions and an app under their own name, ready to pay a monthly plan in dollars.

Where it falls short: the Growth plan starts at $149 a month plus $1.99 per subscriber, the Starter plan caps at 100 subscribers and 20 hours of video, and branded apps need the App Essentials plan, from $449 a month.

Dacast

Live and on-demand streaming with a built-in paywall: pay-per-view, subscriptions, more than 135 currencies.

Best for: organizers and broadcasters who mostly sell paid live events, conferences, shows, competitions, with their replay.

Where it falls short: built for the broadcaster more than for a creator’s catalog; plans are billed yearly, from $39 a month, the paywall depends on the plan, and a commission is added to sales.

Patreon

The support subscription: your fans pay every month to reach your videos, your posts and your community.

Best for: creators whose community pays to support as much as to watch, and who want to start without setting anything up.

Where it falls short: you publish on your Patreon page, not on a site under your brand; the fee is 10% for creators who joined after August 2025, payment fees on top; and it isn’t a VOD catalog: no rentals, and one-off purchases stay secondary.

Gumroad

The digital product store: you put a video or a bundle on sale in minutes, with no site to build.

Best for: sellers of a masterclass, a tutorial bundle or a single film, when the job is selling a product rather than running a catalog.

Where it falls short: 10% plus $0.50 on every direct sale, 30% on sales from its marketplace, card fees on top; and a store doesn’t file your videos into categories and series the way a channel does.

Before it closes: what to do

Four steps, in this order, so your buyers keep what they paid for and your sales pick up somewhere else.

  1. Hand us your catalog

We pull your videos straight from Vimeo, with their titles and descriptions. Vimeo can also give you an export of your files: we take it over as it is.

  2. Open your channel and set your prices again

Outright purchase, rental, subscription: keep your plans or change them, and payment goes through Stripe, paid out in your name.

  3. Give your former buyers their access back

Announce your channel’s address on your site, your social accounts or by email. Once they have created an account, you open a free access for them from their customer record.

  4. Replace your old links

With the migration, we hand you a table mapping every Vimeo link to its Videas equivalent: you update your site, your social accounts and your emails from it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Vimeo On Demand really shutting down?

Yes. Vimeo has announced the end of the service and points its sellers to Vimeo OTT. New purchases and new subscriptions are already blocked, running subscriptions no longer renew, and when it closes buyers lose access to what they paid for.

What happens to my buyers and subscribers?

They lose access when the service closes. On Videas, you give it back: announce your channel’s address on your site, your social accounts or by email, and once they have created an account, you open a free access for them from their customer record.

Can my Vimeo On Demand catalog be moved over?

Yes: our team pulls your videos straight from Vimeo for free, with their titles and descriptions, or starts from the file export Vimeo gives you, and hands you a mapping table from every old link to its new one. You then set your prices and arrange the catalog in the channel, in the order and categories you choose.

Which alternative doesn’t charge per subscriber?

Videas, Patreon and Gumroad get paid through a commission on what you sell. Vimeo OTT, on its Starter plan, and Uscreen, on its Growth plan, charge for every subscriber on top: the bill grows with your audience, even when your subscription price doesn’t move.

How much does a Videas channel cost?

€10 a month per channel, and a 15% commission on what you sell, payment included; €10 more a month to publish it on your own domain. Storage and delivery are pay-as-you-go, and signing up is free, with €5 in credits on signup and every month after.

Can I sell outright, by rental and by subscription at the same time?

Yes. On a Videas channel, outright purchase, time-limited rental and recurring subscription coexist: you set a price per video, per category or per plan, and payment goes through Stripe, in a checkout in your colours.

Does Videas offer mobile and TV apps?

Native apps are in development. The channel is a website: it opens in the browser of a phone, a tablet or a connected TV, and playback adapts to the connection. If your project depends on an app, tell us before you start.

Where are the videos hosted?

With Videas, in the EU, on infrastructure we run ourselves, with no advertising cookie in the player. Vimeo OTT, Uscreen, Dacast, Patreon and Gumroad are US services: check their terms if your buyers are in Europe.
