At first, it was a student project. A TV studio had asked Vivien and me a simple question: how do you go from the camera output to going live online without spending hours on it?
We looked for a solution that would bring it all together: storing, encoding, playing, broadcasting, measuring. It didn't exist. What existed was five separate tools, five companies to deal with, five invoices to pay.
So we bought a server. Vivien built it by hand, I designed the interface that went on top. It was supposed to be a project. It ended up being a product. In 2018, we turned it into a company.
Chahnez designed Videas' very first screen, and still designs every one since: flows, interfaces, copy. The challenge: a tool as simple for a first video as it is powerful for a team managing thousands. The result: a product you pick up in minutes, and keep discovering months later.
Vivien built Videas' first server by hand, and still administers today's: storage, encoding, network, delivery. No one sees his work, but everyone feels it — a video that starts instantly, a 40GB file that uploads without a hitch.
